Fuzzy Blue Lights

As a person who happens to be extremely fascinated with light, I'm excited to start working on my time exposure project. My major focus for this project will be city streets and the headlights/taillights of passing cars. Here are my main points of inspiration for this upcoming project.

Designer Skyline

For our second advanced photo assignment, we were told to shoot photographs of various examples of architecture in our area. My main focus for this project was playground equipment and historical architecture. Strange combination, I know.

This first photo is by far my favorite out of all the ones I shot. It was taken in a historic neighborhood in Fort Worth, Texas. I really love the light aquamarine color of the sky and the intersecting lines created by the shingles on the roof and the chimneys & weather vanes.

This second photo was taken at Fire Station Park in Fort Worth's Southside Historic District. I really like how the red swing pops against the drab background.

The final photo I've chosen to post for this project is of a bench that was sitting near the old courthouse in downtown Fort Worth. The lighting in the particular corner where this bench was located made for a shot that to me feels very refreshing and clean.

Overall, I'm really proud of the photographs I took for this project and the fact that they were taken in a wonderful city like Fort Worth makes me enjoy them that much more.

Owls Are People, Too

These are the three photographs I shot for our portrait project.
I absolutely hate pictures of myself, but this is about as good as I'm ever going to look, so here's my self-portrait:

This second picture is of Amber Rodriguez. I really like the casual feel of the photo and the lovely green splatter-paint background:

My final portrait is not of a human, instead, it is of my fake owl, Stanley. I love his bright yellow eyes and how they contrast so sharply with the white of his body:

Why TCC Is Wonderful

I am in TCC Psychology for 4th period this semester. However, TCC classes don't start until the second week of school which results in me not having a 4th period this week. So, instead of sitting in the cafeteria with the rest of the kids, I'm hanging out in photo class and posting more portrait ideas on my blog. Enjoy.
I absolutely love the elegance of this photograph, it was taken by someone with the username Lobbiaz. I love the rich reds and how they combine with the black to create a very deep, solemn effect.

These two portraits were taken by my favorite photographer, Mitchell Davis. His style of photography is absolutely gorgeous in it's simplicity. Out of all the portraits I've ever seen, his are my favorite. He captures each person's individuality so well. I can only hope that someday my photographs of people will be as beautiful as his are.

Now I will go back to browsing Flickr in search of even more inspiration for this photo project.

Portrait Ideas

This photo was taken by Joe Lesina. In addition to his fashion sense, I really love his lighting techniques.

This photo was taken by someone whose username is Crazybobbles. I love how creepy the mask looks and the vignette around the photograph makes it even more eery.

This photo was taken by Stephane Giner. I like the way the girl in the photo is positioned and how the shadows in the photo make it's overall mood dark but hopeful.

This Is PhoBLOGraphy

I don't have a photograph to post today, but I would like to talk to you about a little something I call phoBLOGraphy, the art of blogging about photography. It's what we've been doing since the start of of this semester and I am thoroughly enjoying it.
Blogging about photography comes natural to me, because not only do I love photography, I am also a writer. Art and literature are my two biggest passions in life, aside from music. I love photography because it allows me to express myself and also capture some of the moments that make life worth living. I want people to see the world from my point of view, that may sound narcissistic, but doesn't everyone wish that others could understand the way they see things? I'm a photographer because I love art, but I'm also a photographer because I want to be understood.

Anonymity

This is my self-portrait of me as a photographer. In case you haven't noticed, I don't make it a point to show my face in any picture that I take of myself. In my profile picture here on Blogger, my face is hidden by my hair, and here it's just completely cut off.

The Kodak Instamatic I'm holding in this picture is a member of my lovely little camera collection. I chose to use him in this photo because he's got such a classic "camera" look and I thought it went really well with the overall photography theme. A little fun fact about this photo is that the grey hoodie I'm wearing was really damp because I'd just taken it out of the washer, therefore, I was REALLY cold and shivering when I took this picture. It was completely worth it, though, because I'm rather proud of this photo.

A Puzzling Picture (But Not In A Bad Way)

Our latest photo assignment was to compose a David Hockney style photo. It's comprised of a whole bunch of different shots of the same subject that are put together in Photoshop to form one larger image, almost like a puzzle. Here's mine.

My model was senior Madison Simpson and I owe her a HUGE thanks for agreeing to model for me at 6 in the morning when it was freezing outside. So, thank you, Madi.
I really like the way this picture (or pictures) turned out. It was a little bit confusing to figure out how I was going to put all the pictures together at first, but it got a lot easier as I worked on it more. I wish some of the pictures fit together better, but it's supposed to be slightly offset, so I suppose it's alright. Overall, I'm proud of my work here, this is the first big project I've done in Photoshop and I think I did just fine.

Comments? Criticisms? Cogitations? Don't hold back.

The Summit Beast

Last class period, we were told to go shoot photos of the jaguar sculpture that stands at the entrance of Summit.

In all honesty, I'm not a big fan of my photo. The glare on his (or her??) face drives me crazy and I wish that I'd had the presence of mind at the time to use my polarizing filter to reduce that horrific glare. Oh well, better luck next time.
However, I do like the angle from which I shot the picture. He (or she??) reminds me of Chester Cheetah and that alone makes the glare a little less irritating, but I still don't like it. So, to sum it all up, pull out your sunglasses, cause this photo is going to blind you.

Let It Snow In Texas?

On February 11th, 2010, North Texas found itself buried under 12.5 inches of snow and I found myself trudging through it all just to take pictures. In the end, I think my efforts yielded some halfway decent results in the form of this photo.

I took this photo while walking around in the alley behind my friend's house. I was supposed to be helping her build an igloo, but of course, I had to take a little photo detour. It took about an hour of walking around in the freezing cold to finally snap a picture I liked. The colors and overall composition are what I like most about this picture.
There's another picture I took that is almost exactly the same as this one, except the pine cone isn't in focus. Hence the reason it's a good idea to snap at least three of the same picture if you can. Had I not done that, you wouldn't be looking at this picture right now, so naturally, I'm really glad I took the time to get several shots.
The snow day was beautiful and gave me a unique photo opportunity that I probably won't have for quite some time. I hope you enjoyed the snow and the photo.

Something You Might Enjoy

Meet Mr. Squirrel.

He is one of my grandma's many eccentric little lawn ornaments. I took this photo of him back in November 2009. I was walking around outside with my camera when I spotted him sitting on the porch holding his little acorn and I knew I had to take pictures of him. His photo shoot consisted of well over 100 pictures, but this one was my favorite because, when I first saw him, he appeared to have a lot of personality (for a lawn ornament) and I felt that this photo captured it best.
Another thing I like about this photo are the fall colors in the background because they give it an overall warm and inviting tone. Whenever I go through my photos on the computer and come across this one, I can't help but smile at Mr. Squirrel. Hopefully he makes you smile, too.

Aloha (Which Means "Hello" AND "Goodbye")

I would like to welcome you to my photo blog with warm cookies and a loving hug, but I can't because it's a blog. So, instead of welcoming you in that manner, I will welcome you with this post.
I am a sophomore in Mrs. Ellman's 6th period photo class. I love photography and am excited to share my work with you. Hopefully you enjoy looking at my photos as much as I enjoy taking them.

Aloha (this time, it means "goodbye".)
